PSU Large Enough....
Question: I purchased a Vantec 350W ATX 12v Model: SL350 , PSU. Now everything is running fine, but I wanted to know if I made the right choice. I swapped out my Leadman 400w PSU because the Antec's +5V and +3.3V rail output is 230w where the Leadman was only 180w. Did I make the right choice?
System:
Thermaltake XaserII case (5 case fans, 3 red, 2 Tt original)
P4 2.53GHz @ 2.8GHz 1.55v w/Vantec AeroFlow VP4-C7040
512MB DDR333
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro w/Zalman Heat Pipe Kit
Sound Blaster Audigy
WD 60GB 7200RPM HD
10/100 Nic
CDRW 20x10x40 Phillips
16X DVD Lite-On
3 1/2 Floppy
2 Red CC Lights
6 USB Ports (4 in use) - Printer, Mouse, Digital Camera, Web-Cam -

I personally would have went with a 400+ watt Antec... Then you could have had the best of both worlds... Good 5/3.3 rails, and also a high total output.

I think that it is fine, especialy if you say it is running fine, but then again the 3.3V and 5V goes to your mobo and if your old one was good you did not need to change. As for the biggest drains on the PS, it would be optical, and HDD, and Fans. Your Fans are connected to 12V, same as your optical and HDD.
It looks like you have alot of fans in there, so mostlikely you are hitting the max of the PS, adding more HDD, optical drives might cause some lose in stability.
Not sure bout this, but its what I believe, correct me if I am wrong.

Fans only use 2-6 watts of power, the ones that use 6 are the really powerfull ones on the HSF, your standard 80mm case fans probablyuse less than 3 watts, so I wouldn't worry too much about fans. Optical and HDD's use both the 12 and 5volt rail.

ya most the time it isn't the 3.3 or 5v rails that give you problems it is the 12v . and it isn't the wattage that is the problem most the time it is the amperage .

Well I got a really good deal on the Vantec SL350 that's why I bought it. The pc runs fine and I don't plan on putting anymore lights or more than one HD in. As for the AMPS. I dropped from 25a on the Leadman to 16a on the Vantec (12V Rail). IS that going to be enough?
Right now my +12v is 11.80-11.98 ( Average 11.93V )

ok well here is my best "guess" at what your pulling on the 12v rail as far as amps go . without knowing the specs on all the items i can't say exact but here goes .
cpu is 7-8a
fans are .25a each including cpufan
burner 1.2a
hd's .5-1a each
dvd 1a
cc lights ? maybe .01 each not really sure about them
motherboard .30-.5
i would think 16a is ok . the whole thing is the #'s i gave are est. a sony dvd and a lite on dvd might pull difference amounts so you would have to look at the specs of each to see what is really hapening . like some case fans pull .17a some are .23 some of the variable speed fans can pull up to 1a at top speed . so YMMV. good luck .
