Kids attn: cd-rw wizards

I am new to this sight, just found it!
Hello to all.

I have a good one.

Currently using a Canon cd4046 which is a scanner that burns to cd that uses Windows 95.
Well the cd-rw isn't working at all so I ordered the same one, Sony 24x10x40x,ide interface,w/ powerburn.
I installed seemed to work o.k., but when I close a session I can not reopen that session to continue burning like I shold be abel to do. Friends suggest that there may be some kind of memory that is added by Canon to eliminate the replacement of but only Canon parts. Is this true?
Anyone? It would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure that in the burning program properties that you are not "finalizing" the burning session. That would keep you from continuing the last session.

Actually with that piece of equipment you can close the session so you can view on a pc and reopen it to add more documents.
Thanks for the quick reply.

you can actually view the documents on the PC without finalizing the session; finalizing will prevent you from adding more documents to the disk.

Yes,
You can close the session and view on pc. Head back over to cd4046 and reopen session to add more documents. There is a finalizing or protection which will enable no more recording to the media.

I am still baffled about the cd-rw why would it not work properly if it is the same unit that came out of the machine as orginal equipment. What could be different between the two drives that look and are labeled identical. Is there any kind of memory or chip that is changeable in drives?
