Dontasciime is on a distinguished road
10/100 switch and a purchased static lan ip

I have 5 computers networked together and was running HLDS on an Ecs k7s5a over the network i.e 192.168.0.4 .I was kind of aware that running this TFC server on a lan machine ,would actually not be visible from the outside world, for some reason it was, but not on the normal 27015 Port ,but on 1024 . Dont ask me how as i dont know how it worked ..i have tried to emulate this again ,but have changed the machine i use to directly connect to the internet.
I set up the machine that used to be downstairs same way as before ,and no joy could not fluke it again.
So i decided to purchase an ip range from my isp F2S So this would be visible from outside my lan .
I cannot get it to work ,all the info i find relates to routers.
I have a 10/100 ethernet switch.

This is what i have tried .
I use internet connection sharing normally.
And the 5 computers work no problem.
Each have internet access using my main computer which is downstairs ,as i only have the one phone line (socket) this computer being an A7V8X 10/100/1000 built in lan and the dsl modem(speedstream 3060 dsl modem) connected to the switch upstairs which in turn connects to all the other computers and so on.
That works excellent .
SO like i said before i have purchased some extra static ip to use on LAN.

Could some one that is in the know about this kinda of situation please help me ...

Just say for instance that my normal dialup static ip is 195.137.36.38.
and one of the range of static lan ips i purchased is 195.137.21.22
and subnet mask 255.255.255.252.

What would i have to alter on the 1 networked machine that i want a static lan ip .

This is what i have tried .
opened up network properties on the ecs k7s5a (the one i want to use the lan ip i purchased and choose tcp/ip -> Realtek RTL8139(A) Pci fast ethernet adapter then its properties.
choose specify an ip address 192.168.0.4 (not the lan ip i purchased but to test if i could still get internet access and browse the main computer)
subnetmask 255.255.255.0
added gateway (192.168.0.1)
wins resolution is disabled
i enabled dns host which is anthony
and added the two dns numbers my isp provided me with.
bindings are client for microsoft and file and printer etc..

Restarted machine ...then tested it out to see if i could still access internet and browse shared computer ...Was OK....

So then i substituted the 192.168.0.4 with the lan ip i purchased and subnet mask 255.255.255.252 and i also tried 255.255.255.0
Restarted and tried for internet access .NO GOOD didnt work.
Tried entire network and only 1 of the 2 computers showed in entire network... anthony was available .

This is where i am stuck .
I need to know what i have to change on the main computer a7v8x the one with the dsl modem in to resolve this ,If indeed i need to change anything on the main machine at all..

someones help would be great .Cheers

If this means you are using a form of NAT, then the TFC server must be on the WAN side of it. It must also have one of the IP addresses & subnet mask you received from your ISP (you should also add the correct DNS and Default Gateway entry to the TFC server).

Getting the TFC server on the WAN side may be tricky. I don't understand your setup at this point (too much to read right now ) so I don't have an immediate suggestion.

static lan ip

Well maybe this then for now say i want to use servu ftp on the lan machine i reffered to before .
I need to know what to change so that for example it will be visible to the outside world.
My set up is is 5 computers .
a 10/100 switch 5 PORT
main machine is an a7v8x with giglan and a speedstream dsl modem.
Running windoze ME .
cat 5e cable running upstairs to port 1 on switch.
cat5e cable running from port 2 on switch to Ecs k7s5a ,realtek 10/100 card.
cat 5e cable running from port 3 on switch to another asus a7v8x gigalan .
cat5e cable running from port 4 on switch to an asus a7a266 with a realtek 10/100 card
cat 5e cable running from port 5 on switch to an asus a7a266-e with a realtek 10/100 card.

So i want to use the lan ip i purchased so that for now only the ecs k7s5a lan machine will be visible to the outside world.

I would like to know how i can acheive this ,whilst still being able to use ecs as normal .i.e i can get files from any other of my networked computers..

I know this is a lot of info to wade through but i will be patient if anhyone can help Thanks..
I will deal with tfc later on once i got the jist of what i will need to change to make the lan ip i purchased visible to the outside world.
Thanks

It sounds like you are using WinME's ICS. That is form of NAT I was speaking of. You can not put a PUBLIC IP address from your ISP on any computer on that switch and expect it to work. Please re-read my post above.

I do understand your situation better but the main problem still exists... how to get two computers to use the DSL modem without NAT. It sounds like you need another small hub or switch to put between the DSL modem and the WinME computer. Then attach the TFC computer to that small hub too.

Do you need more than 1 machine visible from the internet? If not then you really dont need the block of IPs. Spend $50 on a router and use port forwarding.

DVNT1 is right, if you are using ICS putting in an IP from your ISP will not work anywhere on your network.

Is that Speedstream "modem" in routed mode, by chance? Some DSL "modems" are actually modem/router combos, but some ISP's choose to set them to bridged mode.

this router be ok

If i give up and go for the router option would this one be ok .
and i could use switch with this ,as surely it will have UP port to connect another 3com router or any other switch yes.
