IE6.0 behaving weird

My OS is WinXP Home Edition
I am using IE version 6.0

Whenever I try to save an image onto the computer IE will save it as a Bitmap image even if the original image was a JPG, GIF etc..

Why is this happening and how can I get IE to save the image in the original format?

Thanks.

Annoyances.org has a long thread on this. Here are three pertinent replies to the problem. I didn't read through them all.
