Systems Problem sharing a HP710c printer on a Win98 peer to peer

I have come accross a funny problem in that a HP710c when shared on a Win98 Peer to peer network will not allow me to print from the remote work station or visa versa(gives a lost interface connection error) even though I can see it in my network neiberhood and access it, plus I can install the driver files from the remote pc. I have downloaded the latest drivers aswell.
If I use a Winxp pro PC as the remote system then I can can access the printer and print when the printer is plugged into the win98 PC , but not if the printer is pluged into the Winxp system, then I cannot access the printer via the Win98 PC. My opinion is that it is related to a software problem only on Win98? Any suggestion or a fix from anybody would be most welcome
