Ummm I think we need more information

Brand and Type of motherboard would be great

(The bios update, varies by bios type which differs per motherboard and sometimes varies by model)

Which BIOS manufacturer? Award, AMI ??? Usually if you go to the Motherboard manufacturer's site and look at the Bios update files, they have a tutorial on how to updated it with a floppy. My Abit board has a rather lengthy string that needs to be typed in DOS in order to properly flash it.

The ECS board I just acquired has a similar but different method of updating.

I'd be more than willing to help you out if you could supply the Model of Motherboard ( ie. Abit KR7A-133 )

Um ,Daniel, updating the BIOS is NOT something you do just because you haven't done it for a while.

You can KILL (dead, I mean) your motherboard by having a problem occur whilst flashing the mobo.

So, unless you have a specific problem which can be fixed by a specific BIOS update, I would suggest LEAVE IT ALONE!!

Sorry if this rant annoys ya, but I'd hate to see you kill your mobo for no good reason.

Cheers
Mick

Hmmm, might take some more digging, as Atrend seems to no longer have a website.....I'll have to look into the Award Bios further....Don't suppose you can get the number off the POST screen ( bios number ) can ya? Might be helpful.

Do I need a BIOS upgrade?

In most cases the only reason to get a BIOS upgrade is to add support for a new form of hardware you are adding to your system (such as a new CPU, or larger hard disk) that is not supported by your current BIOS. Most operating systems do not use the BIOS once the operating system is up and running, so you should not upgrade the BIOS in an attempt to fix a software bug unless the system/motherboard manufacturer has identified the BIOS as the cause of the problem.

Consult the computer or motherboard manufacturer or the system supplier before upgrading the BIOS, since they will best know your particular system's capabilities. They may also be able to supply a BIOS upgrade if it is needed.

there a step by tep guide on this thread you'll need to find the updated bios and flash utility for your board...and I'd advise if this is not something your familiar with or comfortable doing that you don do it as others have stated it can leave your board dead
