Outlook Express
Alright, I'm an Outlook n00b. I've never used stand alone email software before, and I cannot seem to be able to figger out how to get email SENT from our second email address ( comcast ). The main email address sends and receives fine, the second only receives. According to the help section, we're supposed to send email from the second address using the main account in the "from" field.
Only, THERE AIN'T NO FRIGGIN' "FROM" FIELD IN THE EMAIL WINDOW!!
What am I doing wrong?

OKay Im a bit confused here,
You have one account set up which sends and recieves fine.
You have a second account that only recieves.
Now this is where im confused. When you send email you are only suppose to send it from your second account? Is that correct?
Or are you trying to send the same email message from both addresses?

I suppose that was a bit confusing....lemmee see if I can clear it up.
The secondary email account CANNOT send email.
Example
Mike@comcast ( the master ) sends and receives mail just fine
Gin@comcast ( the secondary ) receives fine, but cannot send anything.

Go into the properties of the second account, look in the "Servers" tab and make sure the "Outgoing mail [SMTP]" looks something like "smtp.comcast.net" and make sure the password is correct. |

I use multiple email accounts with my Outlook Express. You may have tried this but I don't see it in any of the above posts...
On a new message window, there should be a drop menu on the "from" field. You can select the account to send the message with that way.
Is that what you have been doing? Or does it not let you have the drop menu?

Also while you are in the properties of the 2nd account on the Servers tab try selecting the "My server requires authentication" option (It's at the bottom). I know with my ISP this has to be selected to send email.

Manford is right. I also had to do that with my personal email account. If you are sellecting the account to send with using the drop menu and you need to authenticate, you should get an error message when it won't send. If you are not selecting the account because you did not know about the drop menu, you would simply be sending with your defult account.
If authentication is the problem, when you set it to authenticate, it will ask you what that password is. Typically you will select "Use same setting as my incoming mail server." As Manford said, it is at the bottom of the "servers" tab in the account's properties.

I'll give your suggestions a shot. I don't find the "from" field/option anywhere for sending mail. I try to send mail, and all I get is this message Quote: |
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

| Found Here Quote:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'youraccount', Server: 'www.yourdomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E You are on a an ISP (such as Earthlink or Mindspring) that blocks or has begun to block their users using any SMTP server other than their own. Your solution is as follows:
To set up Earthlink, Mindspring, or your ISP's SMTP servers for your outgoing email you must click on your account settings in the email client you are using (Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape etc.)
In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) field you will enter smtp.earthlink.net (or whatever your dial up or direct access ISP's SMTP server is) as your SMTP server. You must then enter your Earthlink (or your ISP's) username and password for that mail server.
In Outlook Express it is at the bottom of that same tab. You will check off "My server requires authentication" and you'll click on "settings" to enter your Earthlink (or your ISP's) username and password.
Your email will still be from your own domain name, the only difference is in the way it is routed throughout the Internet. Instead of being sent through our servers it is processed through Earthlink (or your ISP's) servers. This allows Earthlink (or your ISP) to monitor its users.
| Seems to me a setting is off.
From Comcast: Reconfiguring Email Settings Maybe you'll spot something in here that isn't checked that is supposed to or something that isn't suppose to.
Like you, I don't have a From Feild either. Not sure what the others are talking about.
Outlook Express: Does NOT have a from Field AFAIK
Outlook: this one DOES have a from feild.
Both of these programs are seperate so maybe there is some confusion to this matter. I can not find a from field no where in options or to view additional fields or whatever.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Something just isn't right, and I can't seem to figure it out. According to everything I've read and tried, it should work, but it just doesnt'.
Can't seem to figure it out. I need to find someone else that has multiple email accounts with outlook and see what is different than ours. ( of course, all the people around me that have comcast only use one account to send email....CrraAAAAAAAPOLA!
