locking up at Windows XP welcome screen

Hello everyone.

I am having a very serious problem with my computer it seems. Last night I had made an animated cursor to replace my current mouse cursor. But when I went and changed my normal mouse cursor to the new one I created it sent me many strange error messages that I didn't remember at the time (sorry). Then after the strange error messages my computer suddenly locked up...

So now everytime I go to start up my computer it gets to the part right after the windows xp home edition loading screen with the green status bar and won't go any further than the blue screen that says "Welcome." I think it has something to do with the cursor I picked because my computer will make a loud beeping noise and lockup directly after I click the mouse 6 times.

I tried pressing every combination of buttons I could at the welcome screen, and even tried starting up my computer with the Windows XP home edition cd, but nothing works... It just goes right to the blue welcome screen everytime and sits there until I turn it off.

Any help is greatly greatly appreciated, and I will be quick to answer anyone's questions incase I left out any important information that might help solve the problem. Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this.

After the bios registers the ram, press f8 and boot into safe mode. Change the cursor to the default

Also are you running service pack 1?

service pack 1 can be described as a one huge update that microsoft released to fix some issues with their software

I don't have service pack 1 installed. Should I install it now?

I got into safe mode (thanks a lot!) I didn't know you could do that.

But whenever I look at the mouse it has the default mouse selected still, and when I change to a different mouse cursor it still stops at the welcome screen when I reboot to normal mode.

I haven't added any hardware recently, but I did download the trial version of some software for making animated gifs (not sure if software would have anything to do with it or not).

Should I use system restore now or whatever it is?

Well you could try uninstalling that software... I've never heard of a mouse cursor causing a failure of windows to even load.

If that doesnt work you might want to get system restore a try (you can just run it from safe mode). Ive used System restore on my sisters laptop a few times after shes screwed it up and it works surprisingly good.
