Help me find a laptop!

I am trying to look for a laptop for my mom . She wants this laptop to be able to have windows xp pro, at least a 2.2ghz pentium 4(Didn't go with AMD becasue of heat and power), 512mb of DDR, at least 40gig drive, a nice 15" display, lightweight, and good with games. Now the best I could come up with is the dell inspiron 8500 for about $2000 i configured her a system to match her needs, except for the lightweight part. Can anyone configure me a system for about $1700 that can match her needs, or maybe build a $2000 system that come with a big rebate.

Thanks,
-Biz

PowerNotebooks is well regarded around here. They'll have something with those specs in the sub-$1700 range.

I'm happy with my HP

I suggest you buy a laptop with 256mb of RAM in one stick, then buy another 256 or 512mb in another stick seperately...it's MUCH cheaper. Would have cost me $125 to put 512mb of RAM in my notebook from HP...It cost me $85 to upgrade to buy a 512mb and add it to my existing 256mb

I've seen a few Dell Inspiron 8500s at my dads office. Tried out one for about an hour and a half since a guy took a half a day off from work. The system performed quite nice but I dont think it was worth the hefty price tag. The "wide angle" screen that they charge you extra for didnt seem to be much different from my old Inspiron 5000.

However... you might want to consider warranties. The Dell warrenties in my opinion are very nice (I've had no experiances with Sager warrenties so I cant make a direct comparison, but will comment based on personall experiance), and despite some claims I've heard, I think their tech support is pretty good from what I've seen. I had 3 hard drives (18GB) and the LCD panel replaced on my Inspiron 5000 in its 3 year warrenty period all replaced no questions asked, hassle free with no charge.

Well i didn't go with the powernotebooks.com. Instead I went with a Sony Vaio. I spotted a great deal at CC today. $1200 for a sony vaio laptop, and here are the specs.

Windows XP Home(Installing Pro tommorrow)
2.66ghz P4
512mb DDR
64MB DDR Radeon
15" display

This was a great deal. Also I didn't have to wait for shipping.
