Kids Do any exist??

I have been searching high and low for the perfect laptop. If only you could custom build them like desktops, one day maybe...

What I'm looking for is:
Centrino -> P-M 1.5 (or higher)
512 DDr (I can expand myself if lower)
60 GB (perferably 5400rpm, but I'm told there's a global shortage)
15" UXGA (ultrasharp/ultrafine, whatever they want to call it)
5.1 S/PDIF audio output (not needed, but a nice feature)
802.11b (at least)
24x CDRW (DVD-R's burn cd's much too slow, 16x or something)
and...
ati 9000 (or higher) 64mb or nvidia 4200 (or higher) 64mb

The closest I can find is the new Toshiba M10, but it's got an older nvidia 420 32mb video card, and no ultrafine screen I'm told.

If anyone can point me to a vendor that sells a system like (or similar enough) to this please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

You can probably upgrade the video card. I know they sell on ebay all the time.

the video card in laptops can be upgraded?

If so how do I know it will fit (will the ports be in the same place?)

Have a look at these fully customizeable lappys from Alienware. They have everything you want and more!

Except they weigh 12+ lbs

I'll be bringing mine to and from school everyday, most likely on my bike. Battery life is also an issue

Have you checked http://www.powernotebooks.com/produc...isplay_size=15

They have some pretty decent Power Pro ntbooks. You can get them with the ATI Radeon 9000. These people have some really good deals.

I've browsed their page before, and their screens appear to only go up to svga+.

Can anyone comment on the viewing angle of theirs screens?

I saw the new Toshiba M10 at BestBuy and was blown away by it's 15" UXGA, but disappointed with it's geforce4 420 32mb.

Does anyone know the performance of this card? For example, would I be able to play C&C Generals on max rez and quality smoothly, or should I wait until the new ati9600 pro's come out?

Ya can't upgrade the video card in a laptop. Not yet at least. Thats one of the less talked about features on the Mobility 9600.

some of the different designs that dont have onboard video let you switch the cards out, but you have to know how to almost completely disassemble the laptop

Have you looked at Dell.
I know they get pricy, but they got decent battery life, and alot of options you can chose from.
Check out the Inspiron series.
