GeForce 2 crashing Windows 98

Hi guys.

Just bought an Inno GeForce 2 MX 400 AGP for my second computer, only trouble is Windows 98 no longer starts, instead after displaying the Windows startup screen the computer resets itself. When going into safe mode the video card will work in 16 colours, but not on a normal startup.

I replaced the 235W PSU with a 350W PSU from my other computer in case their wasn't enough power, but the problem is still present. I have formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 98. I thought their may be a problem between the motherboard and the graphics card, but I’m not really sure. I’m usually good with computers, but this problem has got me stumped.

Any help would be appreciated.

My specs

Windows 98
Pentium 2 400MHZ
Motherboard - DFI P2XBL Intel 82440 BX AGP set
Hard drive - Maxtor 90576D4
Memory - 64Mb SDRAM
350W PSU

did the card work before ? if yes -

two things that may help (both require booting into safe-mode) -

1. DL the latest nvidia detonators - www.nvidia.com

2. DL the latest MOBO chipset drivers - www.intel.com

if no -

you may have recieved a bad card

Try rebooting in safe mode, setting your display to 640x480@16 colors, then rebooting into normal mode. If it works, you most likely have the same problem I did a while back. (All I could come up with was some design flaw in the MB, as the video card worked fine in a different MB.) If it doesn't work, I would wager that you have a driver issue; do as Jimbo suggests and DL the latest drivers.

*edit- heh, forgot the "n't" on the second does*
