AMD Pentium Celeron differences

what is the real difference between these processors. is it as big as the difference between macs and PCs

intel makes both pentium and celeron. both pentium and celeron can go 2 Ghz. so can the AMD atholon. what is the difference?

Celerons are more for the work environment than the gaming environment.

if your wanting preformance look into the AMD or Pentium side.

Essentially, the celerons and pentiums are marketed towards a difference market section. Celerons are marketed for lower priced pc's. They don't provide as much performance as the Pentium line of processors by Intel. The Pentium line, therefore, is marketed towards those who need the best performance, be they gamers, or businsses requiring powerful workstations.

On the AMD side of things, the old Duron line was the direct competitor to Intel's Celeron line. As one can guess, the Athlon's then are targeted for power users and gamers requiring the best performance.

Generally the Celerons by Intel and Durons by AMD have a smaller on-die cache, which can limit the performance of the processor in relation to the Pentiums and Athlons.
