Ok,

With my new computer I had to get a gig of DDR Ram.

The comp place I went to only had 2 types of ram instead of 1 of the same. I got 2 sticks of 512mb, but they are mixed sticks.

1 stick is 512mb of PC2700, the other is 512mb of PC3200.

Does the RAM automatically downgrade itself to match the FSB of my mobo and processor or will they suddenly explode, catch my computer on fire and kill my family?

I'm not sure......I didn't leave my comp on for too long so I couldn't run any extensive diagnostic tests to see if there were any performance hitches due to the ram differentiation....

What do you think?

if i remember right, the ram will run at the slowest installed speed.

i'll use the pc100-pc133 example if you have pc100 and pc133 installed it will run at pc100.

if it didn't i believe it wouldn't see the other ram.

Your 3200 will run at 2700.

If you have them set by SPD they'll run either as the slowest module or run them at their own rated speed. I've seen some mobos that do that and I think my old duron mobo had that capability. You can always set your own speed with any modules.

Just a side note: SOme of the recent PC133 is NOT backward compatable to PC100 speeds.

However I have not seen or heard of this problem with the newer DDR memory.

well if you paid for 2 3200 sticks i would take it back and smack store owner round till he gives you refund or 2 3200 sticks

well, actually. According to the clerk guy they were both the sameish price, like $80.

ANd they only had 1 in stock of the pc2700.

My FPS is 333 but it said in the BIOS that I could change it to 400 which I dd.

The PC3200 is fine at 400fsb but the PC2700 may be unstable and overheat. It's designed to run at 333.

Right now I don't have the PC2700 in it.

The doofus kid at the store handed me a 256mb stick instead of a 512. Right now im just running the 512 of 3200 which can run at 400.

Do you know if the Athlon 2600+ has a set FSB speed like that? I think it's 333 but im not sure. I wanna run the ram at 400 since the mobo says it will let me, but im not sure if that will adversely effect my processor.
