a little bump

I have a AMD tbred 1700, a good cooler, Crucial DDR and a Shuttle AK31A ver3 motherboard. I would like to bump it a little, say to 1.6 or 7. What is the best method or way to start.

I don't know what the Shuttle bios will allow you to do but you should be able to go in there and bump up the bus speed or fsb.

Try putting it up to 145mhz, that'll give you about 1595mhz. The xp1700 has an 11 times multiplier so...145*11=1595. That processor should be to do 1700mhz easily just watch your temps.
Oh and your ram might hold you back do you know what pc version it is?

The Ram is PC2100 but I have some 2700, what would you suggest. I can probly get my hands on just about anything. Wondering what kind of Ram to have around for experimenting?

The higher the number the better. PC2700 is made for a 166bus speed. Your fsb is 2 times the bus speed so PC2700 will say its for 333mhz fsb.
I'd say go with the 2700 you should be good with that.
You may need to increase your vcore settings in your bios power manangement to get a stable overclock, but this will increase your temps (you're good up to about 60c).

Don't forget that overclocking your fsb will overclock your pci, agp, and ide ports. The results might be bad for the devices.

Well...that's unless your particular motherboard locks the pci/agp and default. I know the Nforce boards do...don't know about the one you're using.

But ya...you wanna be careful because more then likely you're not just overclocking the cpu.

Good luck.
