Arctic Silver III vs Arctic Alumina...

The differences I know of in Artic Alumina:

Half the cost.
Non electrically conductive.
Adhesive.

So then, what is the advantage to Arctic Silver III?

What are the different applications or each one?

...I believe Alumina is much older than AS 3...thus not as good

From the review I just looked at (http://www.overclockersclub.com/arcticalumina.shtml) it's not even better than AS2

So why do they sell it?

Is it the only one capable of acting as an adhesive, or can I use Arctic Silver III for that?

Ie. if I wanted to attach little heatsinks to ramchips without anything to hold them on - would Arctic Silver III work?

No arctic silver will not adhere your ram sinks to the chips. You will need the Alumina for that, or any thermal ahesive tape made for that use. And along that line of thought you won't want to use alumina on your CPU, as it will be near impossible to remove after the bond is made.

The only real difference between the two thermal compounds is a whopping 1°C! Whoopee.

Oh wow, what a whole 2 or 3°C difference? For that matter, there isn't even that much of a difference between the cheapo stuff from Radio shack and Artic Silver.
