bios flashing

I HAVE A DIABLO COMPUTER (1998) WITH AMD K6-2 333MHZ AND A FIC PA-2013 MOBO WITH A VIA APOLLO(M)VP3 CHIPSET. THE BIOS IS AWARD V4.51PG 84-97. BIOS PLUG N PLAY EXTENSION V1.0A. THE FULL STRING IS-- 5-28-98 VP3 586B W877 2A5LEF09C-00. THE PROBLEM IS I JUST BOUGHT A 40GIG HDD BUT WHEN I INSTALLED IT THE COMPUTER HUNG BEFORE I CAN BOOT FROM THE FLOPPY WITH THE DISK THAT CAME WITH THE HDD. I KNOW THE BIOS IS TOO OLD TO SEE ANYTHING OVER 32GIG. HOW DO I GET THE BIOS FLASHED SO IT WILL SEE THE 40GIG AND NOT HANG AT THE AUTO-DETECT HDD IN SET-UP. ANY HELP OR INFO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANKS.

YES THERE ARE UPDATES BUT NONE SAY THEY ARE FOR APPLYING LARGE HDD SUPPORT. THE CLOSES ONE LETS YOU READ ATA66 IDE HDD NOT JUST ATA33 HDD. AS TO THE REPLY BY RicheemxX I FOLLOWED THAT THREAD BUT NONE OF THE FLASHES SAY THEY ARE FOR WHAT I NEED.

Food

The first thing you need to invest in is a new keyboard.
The caps lock key seems to be stuck on your current one...

Check the FAQ's at the manufacturers site. Latest bios for drives up to 65gig. Maybe larger..

Thank you-Thank you-Thank you
That was exactly the update I needed.
you are awesome MRCOMPUTER!!
And no my caps key isn't stuck, just awkward fingers and typing.
Just got a new keyboard so I figure the culprit is me fingers!
I would like to thank everyone for their advice.

So are you going to Flash it? If you do decide to Flash, have a look at WWW.BADFLASH.COM . Not to scare you, but you might want to take note of some of the precautions regarding flashing a computer's BIOS.

I've done it a total of four times on three different computers, and thus far I am 4 for 4 on sucessful flashes. As one poster put it, "the flash gods have been with me".

That said, I don't want to push my luck :P

Good Luck - and let us know how things turn out. Cheers

If you don't want to flash, on some of the 40gig drives there is a jumper that will configure the drive to 32gigs for installation in a computer such as the FIC. Just set the jumper, let the IDE detect it and install the OS.
