Fav. linux apps

I've been playing w/ linux for some time now and I think it's time to make the transition. What are your favorite apps for linux?

I'm looking for anything that's worth mentioning. I'm especially interested in different media (audio and video) players.

Good media playback app: MPlayer

Since I am a tech writer, my favorite Linux app would have to be OpenOffice. I also like WINE for those rare few Windows-only apps that I always seem to be needing.

I love xine, as it can playback movies in ASCII art. Really freaks people out when I do that to them.

My speakers and all that are on my Win Box.. My favorite program? Opera and X-Chat (I know they aren't audio/video players also. )

Although on my last install I did have XMMS running. Not bad.
