You're not an idiot. I had these same kinds of questions when I got my first computer.

What operating system do you have? And do you want to find out the brand of card you have or just the model?

all i know is that i have a dell with windows XP. i was going to have it updated but i want to know what i already have.....

i dont have any of the papers or books and i cant seem to find anything on the dell site.

right clik on ur desktop and clik properties and then go to settings and then clik on advanced and then clik on the adapter tab (if u have windows that is) good luck on finding out ur vid card, also look at the conector for ur monitor is it horisontilly positioned or vertically?, is ur case a tower or one of those horisontel thingy's?

You can also use Belarc Advisor. It will tell you just about everything you need to know about what's in your system.

Another way is to go into control panel >> system >> hardware tab >> device manager and look under "Display Adapters". It should look sort of like this.
