Heatsink/fan suggestions please

Hello,

I'm purchasing an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton Core with an Asus A7V8X motherboard. Could you all give me some suggestions for a good heatsink/fan?? This system will NOT be overclocked. Thanks so much.

Thre3fan

If you're not going to overclock the one that comes with the retail version does a good job and is quiet. The last retail AthlonXP that I installed was a 2000 and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed and how quiet it was.

I use a VANTEC AeroFlow VA4-C7040 on my AthlonXP 2400 and have been very pleased with it. It has the TMD fan (tip magnetic driven) which outperforms the old style fans. LINK & Pictures .

I would say just use the stock AMD cooler if you won't overclock. Personally I'd remove the thermal pad and use Arctic Silver III or Arctic Silver Ceramique(this will void your warranty however). The difference between the OEM version of the XP2500+ and the retail version is only $5.00-$87.00 OEM and $92.00 retail @ newegg.

Another recomendation for the aeroflow. Keeps my 2100+ T'Bred at 41-42°C full load.

if your not overclocking the retail will be fine
the aeroflow is great also but alittle costly at about 30$ but it is very quiet .
glachialtech silent breeze is about the quietest hsf combo out there at 19dba
if you want cheap go get one from iocombo they are like 10.50 shipped . i have used 2 so far they aren't bad at all . they have 3 different types . i used the copper and the alum with led fan .
