AMD XP 2000+ CPU

Hi Guys,
My little cousin has bought an AMD XP 2000+ CPU. I know nothing about AMD stuff, but I do know that it will not fit his present motherboard which I think has a Duron something on it due to different pinouts.
Basically, what we want to know is, what is the cheapest board available new for this Cpu, and can it use SDram memory??
He saved all his money for the Cpu, not realising that the pinouts can change on a range of Cpu's. I don't know what his present board is, but he says the XP 2000+ pins just will not fit. And I do know for sure he has SDRam memory he will want to reuse.
Any help off you guys would be well appreciated by Uncle Taz LOL.

If it's a Socket A motherboard it will work, Duron uses the same pinout as the Athlon XP.

All he should worry about is if the motherboard can handle the AMD Athlon 2000+'s FSB...

Tell him there should be a small mark in a corner of the xp chip on top. Line that corner up with the same corner where the socket handle begins. It should fit right in. Don't try to force it because the pins will bend or break. Post the model number of his board if you want to find out if it can use a xp2000. Most likely it can. Also, make sure the handle is in the up position when installing the cpu.

Yes, there should be two corners that are "trimmed" on the pin-side of the CPU, allowing for it to fit only one way into the socket on the mobo. Do you know what motherboard it is? You can usually find the make/model by looking directly at the motherboard, often printed or stickered parallel to a PCI slot.

Get that and I/we can check that FSB issue for you and give you a heads up on any jumpers you may need to change.

Both Duron & XP CPU's are Socket A/462, so as mentioned above, they are physically identical with their pinouts.
