Delete Partions.

I am trying to delete the partions in a harddrive. The fdisk display shows 1 EXT DOS at 69%. I can delete this partion.
The message is Cannot Delete Extented DOS Partion While Logical Drives Exsist. There are no logical drives present.
How do I conpletely clear this drive to create one partion? Ultimate goal is to install Win 98 SE.

XART:

Run a Search in the forums for FDISKING. I recall having to dump Partition Magic partitions off of a 60GB hard drive on a system I was building. I could not for the life of me get rid of them. I then ran a search at these forums (FDISK or something containing that word) and I patiently read through the posts until I found the answer.

Good luck. The answer is in the forum database!

Hi XART welcome to TechIMO.

What previous O/S was on there?

Do you have access to a DOS 6 or 6.22 or even earlier startup disk? If you do you can boot from that and remove the NON DOS partion in FDISK. Otherwise you may have to find a machine running XP or NT and try from there.

I had a hard drive that I needed to get rid of the partition and tried with my Win98 and Win ME boot disk and it wouldn't get rid of it (I got the same message as you) then I used my old trusty DOS disks and was able to rid the partition.

HTH

Your Fdisk should show under the delete option, 3. delete logical drive, you do that first then select 2. delete Ext

Send a message via AIM to soulja
Fdisk should be able to delete, make a new partion and then you format and complete, then u just add the OS on. or u could get drive partion they have tools in there that will let u do anything to ur drive such as partioning and deleting

Wolfreakyn is right. You need to delete the logical drives first.
