Okay, I have dsl. I have a dynamix (changing IP).
Whenever I want to play a game (let's say Diablo) I goto "make a server" and it tells me my IP for convienence. 172.168.0.1 WRONG! After 3 days of wondering why nobody can connect to my game is because that is my local ip and not my (external?) ip. So I head over to
www.whatismyip.com and it tells my the real one.
So my DSL modem asks like a router right? It takes the external ip and then gives me taht local 172.168 one? There HAS GOT to be a way to tell windows XP to use the EXTERNAL IP. Right? I'm looking through all of these config windows and it seems like windows is capable of doing it; I just don't know how.
I know the IP address of my modem. When I go there it shows me a page of useful stuff like DNS servers, my true WAN IP address so I don't have to go to whatsmyip anymore.
If windows can't do it, is there a program? Something. I would like window's IP to be my real ip. When my real IP changes, so does the windows one.
Thanks
