Systems Spanning with Nero ???

I have aprox. 4 Gb in files that I want to bring home..

Is there any way to use Nero v5 to span this data into as many CD's as needed?

I read somewhere that Nero can do this automatically, without using any other software (winrar, winzip, etc..), but cannot find that option anywhere in Nero...

Thanks...

Yes, you can span but its in the latest version 5.5 I believe. Don't have it here at work but if you don't get teh answer, I'll try and write the steps when I get back.

But, personally, I'd prefer to make 600 MB files using winzip and then burn them. Reason is if any one of the Cds gets damaged, it won't affect everything. If you span using NERO and use say 10 Cds and CD #7 goes bad, you gotta burn everything all over.

I break up stuff into the size needed for a single CD then burn.

Just thoughts.

That is what I did, same thing as shahani suggested. Just a couple months ago had to save about 6 gigs worth of data of a friends computer and I broke them up to burn to single cd's rather than spanning across several. it was a good thing cuz 2 of the cd's got corrupted and it was an easy thing to burn another copy of the contents of that cd. I had the files saved on one of my backup disk in case the cd got corrupted in the short run. Glad I did.

I'd do what Shahani suggested.

Actually I wanna do it both ways to see which one is more efficient & simple.

I know how to use Winzip already....so I want to know how to do it with Nero now.

From Nero 6 Ultra Help:

Quote:

The data you want to back up can be stored in any of the following locations:

Hard disk
Network (LAN)
CD or DVD
Image recorder

If you have more than one recorder available, you can choose the one you want to use quickly and easily.

As Nero BackItUp uses Nero's burn functions, it is very easy to create CDs. You can burn your backup files onto a multi-session CD, which means that you can create backups at different times but put them on the same medium.

If the amount of data to be backed up will not fit on one medium, this is no problem for Nero BackItUp, because it is possible to extend the backup process over several media.

The data to be backed up does not have to be on your local PC. You can also access it over the network.

The following backup variants are available to ensure that the backup process fits your requirements:

Full backup (all the selected data is backed up)
Incremental backup (only backs up the data which has changed since the last backup)
Differential backup (only backs up the data which has changed since the last full backup)
Update backup (updates the data in an existing backup, if it has changed).
In order to save space, you can also compress the data you are backing up.

To ensure that you don't get any nasty surprises when you come to restore the data, you can have it checked after the backup. This allows you to be sure that all the data has been correctly stored.

If you want, you can increase the security level of your backup files by having them password protected and encrypted. This ensures that no unauthorized person can restore the files.

To make backing up specific files easy, you can use existing filters or create new ones, which allow you to select only specific file types.

UnQuote

In other words, when you select the backup location and it happens to be a DVD/CD writer, it will automatically ask you to insert additional disks.
