P4PE and onboard sound

I use the P4PE GLFS-GD (the deluxe variant) with Windows XP Professional SP1.
Now, most times I start the computer, everything's OK (MIC in and Line in work, I get sound from my two TV cards connected to MIC and LINE).
But sometimes I don't get any sound although directly connecfed to my stereo I get sound out of my TV cards. So the problem is not the TV cards.
If I don't get sound, when opening the Volume Control, the Line in is gone and the Mic doesn't make a change when changing the slider. But I then have controls for Center, Surround, Lfe etc. although I don't use the SPDIF and this. I only use Line Out for sound.
When connecting my stereo to the Line in or Mic in ports and play sounds in Winamp or Media Player, I get portions of the sound OUT of the Line in/Mic in.
I think it's a routing problem, sometimes Line and Mic are routed as Center and Surround. I can't change it either in the Volume control or in the SoundMAX control panel. Even rebooting doesn't work.
I have to completely shut down and switch off the computer, wait a minute and boot it up again. Then the problem doesn't occurr again. It only occurrs sometimes after switching the computer on if it was completely off.
Does anyone have a similar problem with his P4PE?

Onizuka-senseiwelcome to TechIMO!!!
Sounds like you might be having driver issues...try downloading the latest drivers asus mobo index and reinstalling the card. I looked over at the sound max website and they redirect you to asus so I'd assume anything that would help would be there.

one thing to check is that when the problems arise check the device manager and see if there is a conflict??

here's the d/l site http://www.asus.com/support/download...ModelName=P4PE

I won't reinstall the card... When I first installed the sound driver in WinXP I didn't get any sound at all and the SoundMAX Control Panel always said the sound controller would be used by another application. When looking into the device manager there was a yellow exclamation point before the sound driver. I only got it to work with installing Windows 2000 Pro and then installing Windows XP in update mode.
But now I have holidays, I might try to get a new driver...

When the problem arises there is everything OK in the device manager.

EDIT: I just looked at the driver page and saw that the sound driver available for download is the same version as the one on the driver CD.
