Media KNOPPIX or Topologilinux?

what do u guys prefer me to use? im kind of a n00b. the only difference i can spot is that Topologilinux has to actually use some of your hard drive space with a boot CD. whats does Topo have that Knoppix doesnt? if nething? do people really need all that extra stuff Topo gives (a 688mb boot CD plus a few gigs on a hard drive)? my guess is that Knoppix has to extract a lot of stuff before programs can be executed. i wanna keep my l33t windows and explore linux on the same computer. thats why im posting this. oh yea, and Knoppix runs from a CD so u dont need a partition on your hard drive, right?
i never heard of pple mentioning Topologilinux in this forum. heres the site:

Knoppix runs straight from the cd. Nothing is installed to the hard drive, so your up and running quite quickly. Also, knoppix is debian based wheras toplogilinux is slackware based.

im not too sure what the difference is between debian and slackware. from their websites, i concluded that debian is more user-friendly, like windows, and slackware is more for the hardcore programmer Unix-pro. if im right, how is it like that when they both can run gnome, X, etc., and they are both linux's. i thot most linux's were about the same.

Welcome to TechIMO!

Knoppix compresses around 2GB worth of data on one live-run CD. It is the easiest way to learn Linux, as the configuration is reset with each boot. You can hack round, intentionally test the limits of Linux, and explore the inner workings of the operating system without worrying about damaging your system. Definitely a great place to start for a new Linux user.

The underlying differences between any large scale Linux distrobution are marginal. With Linux being essentially a POSIX style operating system, a wide variety of software will interact with a wide variety of distributions.

Generally, only when software needs to interact with the kernel core is there a need for distribution specific packages, and then, usually a quick compile with a couple of simple command line operations will get you in business.
