help with L0phtCrack, lost admin password

hey,

im trying to recover the password for the admin acount on a laptop of my friend(win 2000). i changed it(logged in under his name) from the domain to my workgroup now he cant login with his account locally. i guess its not a local account? anyhow, i was able to mount the ntfs drive with ntfsdos and get the sam file. but when i run L0phtCrack i can get it to point to the floppy but it shows, admin, guest, etc but when its done running it doesnt show the password in the columns. anyone have an idea in this one? i dont want to wipe the passsword either, just want to view it. thanks.

SD

I'm not sure how it is in earlier versions, but you should be able to change the brute force cracking characters to cover a broader range. I don't have that installed on this computer or I would walk you through it step by step.

Yeah, LC4 is version 4.

Like DVNT1 said, you have to change the "Brute Force" to include more than just alphanumeric characters. Unfortunatley, with the "Free" version, you can't use Brute Force.

Have you tried NTAccess

It's a little more involved to setup, but it may work for what you need.

why not just delete the sam? or rename although its telling me a duplicate file name is in use.

edit: actually rick. that app lets you only change the password if you buy it and i dont have the time to be honest, im pressed. thanks though.

A dually machine (PIII550's) seems to help quite a bit.

Both CPU's are pegged at 100% and LC3 is at 99%.

ECC2-109 can't even get a piece of the action!
