CPU Temps A Bit High...
Hey all!
I just finished building my first PC, and all is running good, but I checked my temps in the BIOS, and I'm runnin a bit hot...
111-120 degrees F just sitting in the BIOS, that's about 43 C.
Here's my specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
Igloo Silent Breeze 462
with some Arctic Silver thermal compound.
When I first boot up the PC I get temps at around 102 F then after a few minutes of use it rises to about 118 F.
Anyone have any tips on how I can decrease the temps?

Make sure you tuck in the big ribbon IDE and floppy cables to improve airflow through your case. Do you have both a fan infront of the case blowing in, and one in the back blowing out?
Those aren't bad temps anyway.

I have to agree, for a heatsink that is designed to be silent it will probably lack a little bit in cooling, and those temps are fine.
If you start getting between 55C - 60C then you might want to start thinking about doing something, but in the 40s you're golden

Good, I feel better now.
The highest I've reached was 49C, wouldn't go anywhere over that.
I have one other question, why is my floppy drive's light always on, and my computer didn't detect it/read disks in it?
My FDD cable is connected, power connected, but no detection.
BTW, I used the ribbon cable for the FDD from my old '97 P166 PC.
I would have used a round cable but the one I bought from NewEgg was a half an inch too short.

turn around the ribbon cable, it may be on wrong, if that don't do it, try switching the ends, the end with the twist in it should be connected to the Floppy drive it self, the twist is impotant for it to work,

FWIW, MY newly built Athlon 2600+/333fsb was running at 37-38 degrees last night while I was in my online class. The mobo/case temp was 30 degrees.
My system has some round drive cables, a Zalman Flower HS with a 92mm fan over the HS, another 92mm over the GPU, two 80mm's for intake, one for exhaust, and another to exhaust the PSU.

Are you guys talking about 55-60c idle or load? Cause my new p4 sits around 45-49 idle, but can hit 57 or 58 under 3dmark

Temps of 40's for a 2400+ are great.
They are similar to my temps, the excpetion here is that I am running a 1700+, but I do have a Sonata case which tends to run a bit hotter then others (Price you pay for silance, plus I believe that the case temps are hindering the HS from its full potentianl).
I would say leave things as they are, untill you get to th mid 50s, lower 60s, than worry.
Your question about the floppy has already been answered, flip the cable, mostlikely your pin 1 is in the wrong place, happens all the time with older cables and drives.
