Your problem is more than likely that fact that you swapped all the hardware before cleaning out "Device Manager".

Your new mobo probably has a different chipset than the old. You could try putting everything back on the old mobo and then go into "Device Manger" and getting rid of the devices under "System Devices" that correspond with your old chipset. Same with IDE controllers, sound/video if they're onboard, NIC's, modems, etc . . .

After removing the devices, shut down and then put everything back on your new mobo. You should be greeted with XP finding all the new PnP devices and some friendly rebooting.

If not, you're looking at a fresh install of XP (which is what I would do in the first place)

You usually have to reinstall windows when you switch motherboards, although you could try rebooting into safe mode and the uninstalling all the drivers in your device manager then rebooting normally.

I'd go back into your BIOS and set it to the "Defaults".

Post up what your system specs. are besides your mobo and RAM.

Mobo - Asus A78NX Deluxe
RAM - 256MB + 512MB what speed?
CPU -
HDD -
Video -
Sound -

That should do.

took out the IBM which used to be the old C and made the 120gb the master drive and now it won't go into the windows setup off of the boot cd in the cd drive, just hangs on this black screen

Probably an incorrect jumper setting.

What speed(s) are your RAM modules?
