Really hard domain related problem

Hello,

Here's a tough one so prepare yourself

I had a domain called home_domain
i had a problem with the DC and had to reinstall it and create a new domain WITH THE SAME NAME
I recreated everything (user accounts group etc etc)
The problem is that now when i logon from any client i am getting a fresh desktop and not the desktop that i got when the old domain was running..

My question is , is it possible to like make my old profile to show when i am logging on to the domain or should i start everything from the begining?

Thanks in advance,
Maor.

First of all its not a good idea to use the same name on a new DC. Second is you will need to remove all your clinets from the domain to a workgroup then rejoin the domain. When you do this another user account will be added to the client. You will loose your desktop. Something you can try (which I did) is copying stuff from the old user account to the new one on the client.

You may want to consider building another DC so you don't go through this every time.

You suggesting this method as a FAULT TOLARANCE. and thats ok if i had an extra pc which i dont.

Second, i did just that i firstly removed my clients from the domain (by assigining them to a fictional workgroup and then entered them to the new domain)

third,
"You will loose your desktop. Something you can try (which I did) is copying stuff from the old user account to the new one on the client. " i dont need to see the dekstop \ menu items but all my configuration i had for every profile on the domain (within my local computer)

Is there another way or should i begin all over again ?

ahh you finally figure it out.....the sid numbers were not matching and thus the roaming profiles you had on your dc didnt match and thus were not used by the new accounts as new sids are created each and every time this is for security reasons.
