CD-ROM not reading CD's

This just started a couple days ago. I have a CD-ROM drive and and a DVD/CD-RW combo drive. The CD ROM is set up as the master drive and the dvd/cdrw as the slave drive.

Whenever I put a CD in the cdrom it doesn't recognize it and the autoplay doesn't work anymore. I can see the light on the CDROM like its searching the cd but it doesn't recognize it. When I go into my computer and click on the drive and click on open it tells me to insert a cd, even though one is already in there. I checked my bios settings and they are okay, and when I check the cdrom in the device manager it says it is functioning properly. The dvd/cdrw works okay in reading the cd's and playing them.

Is there anything I'm missing to check on or is my cdrom just dead and I need a new one?

Are these CD's in question one's you've burned yourself? Or are they factory originals such as music or software?

All the cd's are from the factory, no burnt ones.

I don't have a warranty on it any longer. If I have to get a new one its not too big of a deal since they are not that expensive. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something for I do.

One of our CD drives was acting the same way. I just dumped it and got a new one.
