GTA 3 problems

I know what some of you might be thinking, "Not another GTA problem" but this site has helped me very well in the past.

When I first got the game, it worked perfectly. I loved it, and I played it very often. One day, while I started a new game, the intro scene started and then froze partway into it and the audio kept playing. I restarted my computer and started a new game, and the intro movie froze again. I tried several more times with no success.

If anyone could PLEASE help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Could be the CD is scratched or your cd-rom is going bad? Running it w/o anti-virus turned on? How has your computer changed since the last time it worked?

I would try backing up your saved games and re-installing it.

G.L.

ps - don't forget to back-up your saved games!

Well my CD-ROM drive went to the shi... erm... I mean crapper... a while ago. I've been using my CD-RW drive for a while now. I've recently updated to XP (GTA still doesnt work right) and I'm looking to get a new computer (I think, I'm about 50% sure on it). I've installed, re-installed, installed the patch, and all to no avail.

Well if you think the play cd is in good shape(does it always get stuck at the same place? is it scratched or does it have coffee stains on it?) then it could be a video card problem. What video card are you running and how much memory does it have? have you updated the drivers for the video card since upgrading to XP?

Yes, it gets stuck at about the same spot. I did a close expection of my CD and its in perfect condition. My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200, and I ran Windows Update several times for driver updates.

Try hitting enter/escape to skip the opening scene? I am not sure exactly how to pinpoint this but it sounds like a driver issue, expecially if the game worked fine before you updated to xp. Did you update to directx 9? Don't know if that matters because I could run the game fine with dx8/dx9 on my computer, but I had a problem with dx9 on a diff. computer that was causing rtcw:et to crash during mp map loading.

Well it started to get screwy while I was using Win98SE also. I'll try to skip the entry scene later today and I'll let you know what happens.

Nope, trying to click past it makes it freeze even sooner. I've tried calling the support line but the guy who picked up was real rude.

Did you offer him some peanuts?

that vid card probably wont cut it/ and if you want real software tech support as far as games give your systems specs first - this will help people determine what part/s of your system might be critical to replace

Well I'm not gonna waste perfectly good peanuts on him.

He told me to send him specs and I never got a response.
