Outdoors Gateway froze and wont boot

Hello all,

Ok here it is, have had this gateway performance 500 since birth. Always a fast (then) and dependable machine. It's running a pent III slot A 500 mhz. I had reformatted and install new OS a couple of days ago and all was well. Had computer on and running last night, left it alone for @45 mins. came back to find desk top froze, had to hold power button to shut down. On reboot all I got was the start of the boot screen. would show the tnt2 video card and that is all. Hard drive light would come on for @10-20 secs then go off, screen would go blank.

I put a known good hard drive in, no joy. checked the fans, all running. removed ram one at a time, no joy. replaced hd cable, no joy. removed all non-required pci cards and drives, no joy.

I would understand that maybe it could be the cpu, if I had been working on it and zapped it, but to freeze up and not boot even into bios screen.

any and all help sure would be great.

Thanks
Mark
