Defective PSU?

I just got an Antec TruePower 430W this afternoon to replace my old generic 350W. I installed everything and it appeared to work fine. After running it for about 30-45 mins (mostly just at idle), something started smelling like it was burning. Not a smoke-like smell but hot coils or burning dust. It smelt like it was coming from the computer so i opened up the case. The fans didnt feel like they were turning very fast at all. After a couple mins of the case being open the fans seemed to speed up and the smell went away. I tried putting back the case on and eventually smelt it again, it doesnt smell too severe, fairly suttle, but I wouldnt expect something like this from a "quality" power supply unit.

Do you guys think its defective or is this normal and maybe I've just noticed before?

Sounds weird, but the TruePower PS does something with Fan control.
Did you plug the fans into the fan only molex connectors?
If so I would plug them into the regulare and see if this continues.
If not then RMA that bad boy. You got 3 years warrenty on it for a reason, might as well make sure that the PS is not bad.

BTW, does anyone know the post number before you go from "member" to "senior member"
I am just curious

Im not sure if this was clear or not, I'm talking about the fans built into the power supply, not my case fans.

I do have 2 case fans hooked into the "fan only" connectors
