Media Abit KT7A Raid Start Up Problems

I need help with this motherboard. I can usually turn on the computer for the first time and it will boot just fine. If I need to restart the computer after installing software or even to turn it off to do something else, the next time I turn it on, I must turn it on, then shut it off at the power supply, then turn on the power supply and then power button again to get it to boot. If you try to restart it using the restart button provided by the installing software or the reset button on the computer case, the computer will go through the motions by starting all of the drive, but will never post. Anyone have any suggestions? I also have a simular problem with a KG7. Sometime it will not post, you have to turn it off then on again. to get it to boot.

Thanks,

Fred

What's your power supply?

It sounds like the PSU doesn't have enough available current on the 5V standby power. For an Athlon or XP based system, it should have at least 2.0A current capabilities, anything less will cause intermitent boot problems, like you have.

I have a 300 Watt power supply in the computer. Is there a setting in the bios that might be set wrong?

Sorry, I should have said "What maker/model is your power supply?" because not all 300W power supplies are created equal.

So I may have to change the power supply because it does not provide enought voltage to satisfy the motherboard during idle times? I guess I didn't realize that the powersupply could cause a problem like this.

Yes it can, the Athlon processors take a bit of current to get them going

Another factor that affects it is running a higher performance video card (GF4, ATI Radeon, etc) and multiple CD drives and/or hard drives.
