Which Linux on new PC

I'm building a new PC and want to install a Linux OS on it but I do not know which one is good for beginners like me. I have read the RH9 and Mandrake are good for people just getting into Linux, so something along the lines of "click and point" would be nice but I know that is not to be. Any help would be great.

This PC is going to used for backing up my DVD's, web browsing, email, and downloading MP3's.

How about not using Linux at all? Stay with M$. Linux is no good and will not last much longer so it is best to stay away from it.

Just Kidding

I started with Mandrake and i like 9.1 alot. I would take Mandrake over Redhat because Redhat, it seems, is geared more for the business end and not the home user.

PS. Feeling goofy today so i thought i would throw in that begining to tease some people.

Mandrake or Red Hat would be good to start with. I like Mandrake. Take a look at this Techimo thread for information on the Linux applications that replace what you've been using in Windows.

I'm starting to think about using Linux also because I do not wish to pay $99 to $150 to upgrade to WinXP, but if it does not have the ease of use of Windows then I might have to forgo this and give them my money instead. Can someone guide me to links where they have screen shots of the OSes everyone is talking about here -- Mandrake and RH9? And, how easy is it to download these?

Very easy.. Just go to LinuxISO!
I couldn't get Slack or Debian to install properly (That will be a project for later down the road) so I just said WTH and installed Drake.

Next week I may give Debian another go.

YSJ, it all depends on what you use your computer for. If you are going for computer gaming, then Linux is not for you. If you don't feel adventurous and just want your computer to work, and run Quickend and Word, then Linux is not for you. It's also not for you out there with really obscure video cards (I didn't say obsolete though). 3dfx (Voodoo cards), ATI (Radeon, Mach64, and Mach-whatever else), nvidia (Geforce, RIVA, and TNT cards), Trident, and Matrox users are generally okay, although for nVidia you'll need to download and install a driver (pretty much painless).

Still with me? Okay. I'll give you some screenshots of Drake, RH, and some of the linux programs (and the ever-hemmorage-inducing console). Just give me a few.
