Downloaded Program Files folder

My AVG anti-virus prog is saying there is a possible script virus or something in the Downloaded Programs File folder in Windows (I'm running 98fe).

I only discovered this when I was trying to copy the folder to another disk. It gives the name of the .exe file but when I do a search the system can't find it, all the downloaded files in that folder seem to have come from a respectible source too.

How can I find out where this .exe file is residing - I can't do a virus scan on an individual file either in that folder.

Have you set the folder to display hidden and system files?

Also check for sub folders or files with false extensions (file.jpg.exe).

Sorry I can't be more help, but its been a while since I used 98fe...

You can also get to it from IE Options.

When in IE goto Tools | Internet Options | Settings (in Temporary Internet Files area) | View Objects

That will open an explorer window to it.

Does the AV not tell you the name of the file it doesn't like?

You can scan the individual folder. Go to My computer>C>WINDOWS>right click on Downloaded Program Files folder, and choose "Scan with AVG" it will scan only the contents of that folder.

Fixed it by running AVG in a custom scan, just selecting that folder. It found a trojan horse, 2807.exe, and healed it. It didn't say what folder it was in, and the scan results flashed by too quickly to read. The results file says it is now healed so I'll trust that!

Thanks for the pointers anyway.

AGV is really good, and free too
