hi guys i know some of you design websites for money i was wondering how you advertised and got business......im thinking of doing this myself.

I do alot of free work and put my name on it and let people get in contact with me.

100% Face to Face selling. Usually refered by someone that knows me. Advertising did NOT work for me. I spent tons of $$$ on a yellow pages ad and in some local papers....... was a complete waste of time and money.

If you just starting out.......... get a business to let you do thier website...... for FREE. Make sure YOUR own website is up to par. (that reminds me...i have some pages to finish ) I know it sounds crazy, but no one wants to pay for an "unproven" webdesigner. So your FREEbies you do for a couple businesses are your BEST salesmen other than yourself. They give you a powerful sales tool. The ability to show people that you have done this before !! Just make sure that when you do the sites for FREE that the business you do them for understands that you want them to pass along your name if they are happy

Get some nice business cards and give them to everyone you know. Usually you can buy 500 nice cards for under $50 almost anywhere. These are an absolute must. But again, nothing sells better than face to face selling. Ask for someones business. People don't actually LIKE to say no

I'm in the process of doing that. I just wasnt sure my work was even good enough to try and charge for.

Of course! In my opinion anybody who is creative, knows how to work with web sites and how to talk to customers is able to get paid for their work.

I dont know if you have what it takes to make it because I havent seen much of your work. Get some work out there. When people post here like mike asking for a banner make one and slap something like Ph@r@oh designs or something on it.


One thing you could do right now is change your host to http://www.staghosting.co.uk/ These guys give you 100mb a month with no popups and no banner adds they just ask that you put a simple text link to thier main site on your front page.

i submitted a request to join staghost.......i also have another site that im doing for a church gonna do that one for free............but im gonna put a link to a site just for my designing.
