Large File Transfer / Verify?

I need to move 8 gigs of wav files to another partition on the same drive.
1st, is there a better way to do this than "cut and paste"?
2nd, is there a way to verify the transfer?

Never had to move this bulk of files before and not quite sure on the best way to do it.

Thanks
WB

what OS?

i am always weary doing large file transfers too. usually just copy them over, verify the newly written ones, then delete the originals.

Using XP.
Most of the *wav files are from my CD collection that I have started to install on my media computer tied into the home theater. I think it will be easier then having to shuffle CD's in and out of the six disc changer.

I don't see what is so hard about highlighting all the files, then click and dragging them to the new location. That can't take more than a few seconds of your time. Granted it will take probably several min for the files to move but you can be doing something else. As for verifying I think you will get an error message if any files do not copy correctly.

DoctorReno, nothing hard about doing it this way and it's usually the way I go when transferring smaller files. My only concern was for the size of this file.
The time it takes to copy a music CD is minimal but I want to copy my entire collection (1200 CD's) to multiple HDs. I have already spent a couple of hours copying what i've done thus far.
It started me thinking that maybe there was a better way of moving one large file, such as this 8 gig file.

Thanks again Guys for the input

Well, you could write a batch file and then set it do the whole lot as a batch. Would save click drag and drop, and would be kinda a neat geeky thing to do.

Wouldn't really take any longer than normal drag and drop, and you could use command line switches to verify files copy, eg copy /V each time you issue a copy command.

What does anyone else reckon - write a nice neato batch file?

Cheers
Mick

To verify your files, I suggest doing an MD5 sum. Get the prgoram here:
