Talk Now THIS is a silent computer

I wanted something *silent* to use to check my mail, so i made what must be one of the most silent computers in the 'hood.

It consists of:
Mobo IBM-Generic (1993)
CPU Intel 486 SX (1993)
GPU Generic VGA Card (not SVGA) (1993)
Mem 16 MB (?)
Internal ETH card.

Peripherials connected:
Floppy drive, Silenced Keyboard. (1995,1999)

And since it contains no fans what so ever (not even the powersupply has a fan) it is COMPLETELY silent!

It runs a home-made floppybased linuxdist. (and to people not used to linux it uses a ramdisk technology that doesent make the floppydrive spin and make noise all the time)

Perfect for IRCing, checking mail etc.

Neat!

Can you post an audio recording of your computer running? I think everyone would love to hear it

I heard of one guy who loaded a P133 with headloads of RAM, and got a silent HDD. On bootup, it loaded the entire OS into a RAMdrive, and ran from there. Super fast, and he wrote a script (or twenty!!!) so that any changes were written back to the HDD. Not bad - and of course with such a proc, no fan was needed.
Win 95 was his OS of choice - took a while to boot, but flew afterwards!

Which proves a point: Don't touch the CPU unless you know it's cool.

I have always had a HSF and fans in a computer case anyway. I find other ways to fry computer parts.

Well, that's kinda pointless as it doesent have any sound creating factors. It is completely silent. (well, i suppose the transformators in the powersupplies would make a really tiny like 2dB humming sound if you used some kind of ultra sensetive sound-detecting machine)
