currently i have an older Athlon Slot A 700

I have an op. to get a Slot A Tbird 650 real cheap (basicly free)

is it worth it? or just a hassel......

is there a diff in slot A and slot 1???

txs

im kinda thinking it would be a waste of time and effort....

You have an AMD Thuderbird, and you want to put a Pentium III 650 slot in there? I don't think so.

If you want to upgrade... you get a newer Socket A nForce2 mobo, a new Power Supply and an Athllon XP.

Slot 1 was mainly used with Pentium 2's and some Celerons. Slot A and Slot 1 are absolutely NOT compatable.

You question was concise and clear, I don't think you rambled. I think Bruneau misread your question and got going on the wrong direction.

I don't know enough about AMD to tell you if the Tbird 650 will outperform the Athlon 700.

There are some very knowledable AMD members here who should be able to answer your question unconditionally.

There were a few early slot Tbirds. My neighbor has one, a Gateway yet.

It's not worth messing with. If you're going to upgrade then, UPGRADE!

Back in the slot days intel called theirs Slot 1 and AMD was Slot A. Why they went down that slot road I'll never know.
