Kids Poll: Eye candy or Framerate?

Which do you prefer. I hear some guys talk, and its all about the benchmarks and how fast the card is. They are even willing to turn down the detail levels to get better performance. Some people here seem to reccomend cards by this. They think benchs and speed is the only thing. (Im not accusing anyone for thinking this way). But if that was the only thing, cards would only get faster and we would stay at DX8 forever. Whic brings us to eye candy. The longer you look at something the more flaws you notice. hence, the desire for better efx and quality. Some guys are willing to take a framerate hit down to 30fps if they know they will be playing the game at the highest quality. Which are you? Willing to take the framerate hit, or is it just pretty textures on the walls?

I'm kinda stuck in the middle of the two.

I LOVE nicely detailed games and actually DO stop to notice the purty textures. But I also dislike it when my games slow down at all...

Couldn't really lean towards either.

I usually adjust my settings for which game I play (sometimes I don't really care).
But if I'm gonna be in a fast shooter-style game, then I'll turn performance up & detail down. Whereas if I'm playing a strategy game like Age of Mythology, I'll turn UP the detail so it's easier on the eyes.

I don't care that much for "de pwiddy flowers", I like to get my speed. But, I usually just leave all of the settings on default.

What good does alot of speed do?
Playing UT2003 at 60FPS rather than 55FPS isnt going to effect your gaming, mide as well have it look the best that it can

i usually run things full out...but as soon as my framerate drops below around 30 i start to inch the graphics down (doesn't happen very often cause i run everything at 1152x860 anyways)

In the middle.....

Pong is a cool game and I am sure we can get wicked refresh rates but it is kind of dull to look at.

On the other hand who wants to play a jerky game?

I want to best graphics possible without having any drop in frames.

I don't have many problems with frames on my current setup yet, so all details go to high.

well with my new PC I hope to have both worlds in perfect harmony

But I like a mix of the two. Speed is nothing if it looks like nothing. I mean who cares if you can get 20,000 3dmarks at 640x480 16bit. I mean nobody could stand that. However getting 14,000 at 1024x768 32bit isn't a bad thing at all! Having enough power so you can set those graphics up high is what is all about. I like to get about 60fps generally in a game so you never or almost never get those annoying dips where the fps drops to 30 or 20 when you look at a trees leaves waving in the wind.

So basicly I always have a speed buffer (the 60fps), but I set the graphics up as high as I can while still maintiaining those because the graphics are what its all about.

Work

If all you're truly interested in is frame rates, why not simply have everything rendered as a wire frame or bounding box and use that instead?

lol

What is the ideal framerate. They say the human eye starts to pick up flutter at 30fsb and less that 75mhz. So where's the middle?
