IDE Controller card help

I got an IDE controler card from a friend. I think Maxtor makes it(it has a big maxtor sticker on it). I put it in my box go to boot up and it beeps(the motherboard speaker). I have tried different slots talkin cards out and such. The board is an ECS k7s5a(aka ghetto board). He said the card works fine.
Anyone know where I can find out what this beeping means? I can find it on there site.

Are you sure it works? Go over your friends and put it in his pc to verify it does work.

More information would be helpful!
What type of beeps? Continuous short beeps, long, then short?
Next we need to know the BIOS manufacturer.
I have not observed an add-in controller causing beeping.
It's more likely that you disturbed something else that is now the problem.
Remove and reseat your video card and memory, as these are common causes of beeping.
Another thought- when using a controller card with your boot disk, you must change the system’s boot sequence to boot SCSI.

What was the problem? I guessed that it was a card made by Promise Technologies - I think Maxtor just rebadges the Ultra133 cards and calls them thier own. I have the Promise Ultra133 branded card and oddly enough it had real trouble detecting Maxtor drives from time to time. I haven't had a bit of trouble with it and my WD though.
