Kids CR-RW media speed

I am about to buy a CD-RW. However, when I went to Office Max investigating a rebate, I noticed that the drives were speeds like 48x24x48, but all the media for sale were much slower. What's the story?

Thanks,
Bill

It just means they still have it in stock...you shouldn't have a problem finding 48x media...even if you do 40x is still fast.

yeah, just don't try to burn faster than what the CDRW media is rated at, otherwise you'll end up with coasters.

Every time that I've tried burning onto slower media, (i.e. a 2x disc) at a speed setting of let's say 16x or 32x, the burn gets messed up and I've either got to toss the disc in the trash, or use it as a drink coaster.

Kids

Do the high speed drives work satisfactorily writing and rewriting at the low speeds?

yes, but most of the problems people have with creating coasters is the cd-rs you use

Ha, I went into Office Depot the other day and picked up some CD-Rs. They had ten 10x CD-Rs for $9.99 and ten 48x CD-R's for $6.99. Guess they had more money tied up in their old stock.
