Excel extentions trouble!

Hey ho-

My laptop here at work will not open Excel files correctly.

All of a sudden (well, it's been awhile) if I double-click on an Excel file, it will boot up Excel, but with no worksheet. If Excel is open, it will just open to the worksheet already selected.

The only way I can now open a new worksheet is to do a file->open in Excel itself.

The laptop is running Win2000 and Office XP, and I have already tried resetting the file associations for Excel worksheets.

help!

Well one thought is just to re-install it.

Hey that is the easiest MicroSoft solution I could think of.

Troubleshooting 101
CTRL ALT DEL fixes everything
if that don't work re-install it.
if that don't work then re-install OS
if that don't work replace the hard drive
if that don't work replace the machine.

KISS MS style

Talk Humor.

Okay. Okay. I can appreciate the humor.

But, I do need a solution to this problem. And I really would not mind re-installing OfficeXP if I could do it myself. As of now, I have to call my IT people about it.

And I'd rather not call them for something so retarded.

THIS MS KB article sounds like your situation, even though it's not exactly your problem.

Have you installed and updates or service packs?

Sounds exactly like the problem, except for the Thai-language dealie.

I'll have to apply this patch later and see.

I don't really patch OfficeXP on this particular laptop, since you do need the disk usually when you update. Seeing as how IT has the disk, updating is not really an issue.
