Systems m726mrt sound card problem

I bought m726mrt mainboard recently. Everything was OK until I tried to enable the on-board sound card. The card works in the matter of fact it is able to play the music CDs, but every trial to play any other sound format (wav, mp3...) makes the system to freez. System: 128 RAM, Celeron 450 MHz, 2 HDD, Win98. The problem is problably in the BIOS IRQ, because the card has the same IRQ as the USB card has (9). Any ideas how to solve it?

Welcome to the Board!

The onboard sound and usb may share the same irq. That should not be a problem. What other cards/devices do you have plugged in?

Celeron 450? Is this an overclocked system?...

Yes they may. The onboard sound is a C-Media 8738; give it the latest drivers.

MRCOMPUTER: Well, PCI: USB and S3-Trio card; On-board enabled: sound and modem; IDE: 2 HDD, 1 DVD-ROM.

Peter M: That's the thing I'm going to try...

PCI: USB and S3 Trio card?

That board has onboard usb. No extra card required. Using the usb+ps/2 adapter bracket that comes with the board?

Using an S3 pci video card instead of an agp card may cause some problems.

Try the latest drivers as Peter suggested.

Your Celeron is probably a 433 or 466 unless you have a 300a overclocked to 450...

MRCOMPUTER: Well, I see a little explanation is needed. I bought this card from my friend's friend... and so it came without the USB bracket :-) That's why I plugged in an extra USB card. About S3 Trio - this card is my old computer heritage - there were no money to fund an AGP card yet...
Ad Celeron speed - you're right, it's 466MHz
Ad latest drivers - tried, no succes. It seems neccesary to find an extra money for an AGP card...

Check with your local Builders/Shops for the add-on bracket.
That bracket was used on many models of PC Chips boards.
Should be able to find one pretty cheap...

In the meantime, disable the onboard usb in the bios.

The S3 trio pci card caused problems on many boards.
Even a used 8 meg agp card would be better. I.M.H.O.

Good Luck with this project. I have build a few systems with that board and found it to be a stable basis for an internet runner / basic home system...

Outdoors Bad news

So I bought Riva TNT2, plugged into AGP port. No progress. Then I plugged PCI USB card into slot 1 instead of 3, sound goes well. Mouse plugged into USB crashed. I'm ready to kick this board out of the window...
About brackets - well, all shopkeepers told me it's a problem. They have hardware 1 year old only, not more. And according to their opinion this board manufacturer (PC100) is not too reliable... The only solution about onboard USB was to bring the computer where the technicians will measure the HID and plug there the USB bracket from diffrent manufacturer.

I'm sad...

No progress on the Riva TNT agp card? Do you mean no post/no video? It should work. It may not have been completely seated. I would try that one again.

As for the usb/mouse/etc. Scrounge a usb and ps/2 connectors from another manufacturer. Dump the other cards and use the ATX form card pin out from The PC Chips Lottery to set it up yourself. take your time and double check your connections...

MRCOMPUTER: Ad Riva - I was misunderstood - the card works well, but it didn't solve the problem.

I'm absolutely dissapointed by my progress so I gave it up and brought the computer into the service place...

Thanks for help anyway...
