Um, go ahead and e-mail a 700 meg file.......

He never mentioned the size of the files he is speaking of and I doubt they're anywhere near seven hundred megs in size. I bet were talking between 1.5 to 10 megs here.

Um yeah, you looked up File Transfer not File Sharing. Yahoo! file sharing has no limit as it is a peer to peer setup.

If you are gonna suggest using Yahoo file sharing, I suggest you outline what he will need to use it.

I can't , as I've never used it.

Keep it simple, too, as he has said he doesn't understand some of the stuff we've been saying. We are a bit computer jargon orientated in here, aren't we?

Cheers
Mick

Edit: I still suggest the little app, BFTU, especially if you will only do this kind of transfer very rarely.

For size I was going off of his wording of "BIG" which is relative. But when you say big and movie file together that usually means 700+ megs.

How robust is the Yahoo thinger? Does it support resume. That would concern me in case there is a problem. I have never used it before either, I was just going off of what the previous poster said.

I would still reccomend FTP or an app made for moving large files about.

All he and his recipient(s) need is Yahoo! Messenger

When you install it it creates a file sharing folder. You can designate which "buddies" can access the folder. Just simply move the file(s) you want to share to that folder and the user will have access.

Yahoo! File Transfer is different. With File Transfer you send the file to your "buddy", however, the file gets stored on a Yahoo! server. The recipient gets an instant message from Yahoo! notifiying him/her of a file being sent by a particular "buddy", clicks on a link embedded in the message and downloads the file from the server.

Yahoo! limits File Transfer to 1.5 MB because it uses their bandwidth and their disk space, whereas File Sharing doesn't.

Hmmm - so what happens when the "buddy" connects to your PC and you turn it off or something? Need some sort of collaboration I would think.

And does it support resume? If we are talking 700+MB you will want a resume function for sure.

Cheers
Mick

I know with AIM you can allow certain people to grab files in your "shared" folder at will. Always thought it looked neat, but never messed with it. Like you could setup a file sharing bot of some sort.

Ok, here's some info on Yahoo's file sharing. Nothing about resume, though.

Cheers
