MP3's Skipping

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe
Athlon XP 2200+
512mb Kingston pc2700
120gbx2 8mb cache WD Caviar
generic 330W ps (replacing ASAP)
Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer

I have had an ongoing problem since installing this motherboard, cpu, and psu. I have had general performance issues wince installing, but after upgrading from 256 to 512mb of ram I seem to have fixed the majority of those issues. The one remaining thing I have is that while playing mp3's with winamp3, the sound will skip at random intervals. It is never the same place in any song more than once. It happens anywhere from ever 1 minute to every 15 minutes and it skips about 3 or 4 seconds ahead in the song. The reason I had to replace my motherboard, CPU, and psu is because after adjusting my FSB on my old board, it killed all 3. I only went up to 139, but that did the job for some reason. Since my old board did not have locked PCI slots, could I have damaged my sound card? Or is this a winamp problem? I have never noticed it on any other computer. I have never notice any sound problems in any games or programs, but that doesn't necessarily mean they haven't been there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Aaron

Might be a winamp problem, got the latest version? Also, do you have the latest drivers and stuff?

Yeah, I have the lastest winamp and sound card drivers. Run the same winamp on my other comp with no problems.

Winamp 2.X or 3.X? If you are using Winamp 3.X, go back to 2.X for a test run. If 2.x is chunky, check for latest mobo drivers or try the HP suggestion below. If 2.X is ok, well, what can I say, it would be 3.X that was at fault.

Also, try pulling out every plugin in Winamp, just in case something there is garbage.

Lastly, if you are using software which is running an HP scanner, kill the tasks called stimon and hppowersave.

Well I don't run any HP stuff so that isn't the problem. I reinstalled winamp 3 last night so I am going to try that for a bit and see if it still skips. I also downloaded winamp 2 so I will try that one as well. If both of those skip I think I'm just going to buy a new sound card and a1 gig of memory and see if that helps. Let me know if anyone thinks of anything else. Thanks.
