divX encoders

can anyone advise me on what software I would need to encode MPEG2 movies which have been written to my hard drive using a TV capture card, to divX format

Virtual Dub has prolly been the easiest program for me to convert movie formats. Little confusing settings at first glance but once you figure it out its really simple

The MPEG-2 conversion is going to be the fun part, as most standard linear editing/converion applications do not accept MPEG-2 input streams.

I recommend using VirtualDubMod, or if you want a more simplified interface, then DVDx can read MPEG-2 file streams as well. Both are available for free.
