Outdoors Multiplayer Problem!!

Hi Guys! I have problem joining Counter Strike game server together with my housemate who share the same internet connection. We are actually using a ADSL 512K connection with a router. The problem is we cannot join the same server at one time. Both of us are using original CS CD-Keys (both different).

This does not apply when we play an arrange team game in Battle Net - Warcraft 3.

You probably need to supply a different port number to each pc. That's how Quake worked. There should be a place somewhere in setup to change the port number. The game probably uses a default, so both your pc's get the same one and it won't work that way.

some servers block the same ip from joining at the same time, so people dont connect two machines and use the second as a ghost.

does this happen on every server? what error does it give? i have never ran into this problem tho. you updated the router firmware?

GroundZero3,

The port thing works. When you join a game from the same ip the way the game differentiates between clients is by port number. Each game uses a default port numder. So when you join 67.198.23.22 you are really join as 67.198.32.22:12345 where 12345 is the port number of the client pc. The port number needs to be different.

You are correect that some servers block more than one pc with the same ip, but I'm betting this is a port issue. I had this problem on my home network. Once I figured out about the port problem, it worked every time. At first I thought it was because my machines all had the same quake key code.

I don't have time now but I'll dig up some more info on this and post it here.

im not arguing with you meese, i play counterstrike all the time and dont even have to forward ports but im using a linksys router which must do all that

i suggest to see if there is a firmware and see if that corrects the problem.

Read through these links. I think it explains the port think well.

i tried chaging the ports but it didn't work. i think it might be the router problem. i changed the port setting in the router. this enables me to play warcraft3 both at the same time but not counterstrike. how to update the firmware?
