Bought 'off the shelf' box.

Recently I've had the company of a neighbours 'Cumquat Pissario'

My daughter thought it looked good.
What with the black and silver paint job.
Agreed it does.

Specs are XP2200 [1800 Mhz] 256 ddr, nVidia AGP 32M.
This thing is a POS.

Was brought to me because "it was slow"
You are not kidding!
It wont do a thing.

Well it posts. Then gets to an XP desktop.
Then is abjectly defiant.
Will not move any further.

OK. Looks like one too many downloads.

Have you got the disks that came with it?

Yeah I think so.

Where are they?

Dunno. Great.

Tried a 98 install, just for fun.
Sorta kinda worked.

Not one thing 'on board' has drivers readily available.
Anyone whanna find me an nVidia MCP Nic driver?

Got the vid card drivers from nVidia, two hours to d/l 18M on dial up.

Every time I try to install a PCI Nic.
Just as the install is almost complete.
This pos spontaneously reboots.

Tryed a simmtester on it.
Benchmarked the CPU.

Everything checks out.
'Cept that it is crap.

Honestly, If you gave it to me.
I'd keep the Athlon.
And chuck the rest.

Buy a brand name off the shelf?

Caitlin [my dau] got it right.
It looks nice. But why doesn't it work?

If only, I knew my dear. If only.

R.

Finally, a first hand account to show all my friends when they say, "you're wasting your time, building those things, my compaq runs fine and it was $500"
One of my friends had such bad problems with compaq that his family ended up going through about 6 comps. (ouch)
